Karla Shelton developed her extensive web design and online marketing expertise through 16 years of experience with global companies such as 3COM/US Robotics and Critical Mass (part of the Omnicom network of agencies). She won recognition and multiple industry awards for accounts such as Mercedes Benz, Proctor and Gamble, the Disney Vacation Club and other high-end clients.

Karla was often sought out for her well-known expertise, and she began freelance work for a variety of organizations. Many of the smaller organizations Karla found herself working with had limited resources, but big marketing needs. She found that she enjoyed helping these smaller organizations achieve extraordinary results by stretching their marketing dollars through very efficient Web-based and search engine optimization tactics.

After three years of bringing the power of the Internet to small business clients in both commercial and not-for-profit sectors, she started Find8 Digital. Find 8 Digital allowed Karla to pursue her passion for Internet marketing full time and brought her the satisfaction of helping local businesses get found.

What's the hardest thing you've ever done?

Write a book, "The Virtual Community Companion," published in 1997 by Coriolis Press. The editor had me on a six-month schedule with absolutely no forgiveness for missed deadlines. I wrote every week day after work for three to four hour plus weekends. It was mentally, emotionally and physically exhausting. When Web 2.0 social media exploded, the publisher asked if I'd like to write a 2nd edition. I quickly said, "No!"
